Dr. Angela Larson is a board-certified family physician from Port Angeles, Washington. She started SAIL out of a passion for improving the lives of her patients and colleagues. She aims to help healthcare leaders flourish in their practices, even through difficult circumstances. Prior to starting SAIL, she led primary care in Port Angeles as Clinical Director through the challenges of a major practice transition and the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Larson’s career in the Pacific Northwest and Southwest includes practice in an urban multi-specialty group, urban and rural federally qualified health centers, and rural hospital-based practices. This breadth of practice experience allows her to identify with the many challenges primary care clinicians face, and develop solutions using learnings from different care models and electronic medical record systems. She recently completed a Master of Science in Health Care Transformation through the University of Texas at Austin, furthering her knowledge and skills in leadership, measuring health outcomes, value-based care principles and business strategy. She is also progressing towards International Coaching Federation certification as a coach. She currently practices as a locum tenens family medicine physician.

Dr. Larson lives on the Olympic Peninsula with her amazing husband, Dr. Dustin Larson, an orthopedic surgeon and co-adventurer. She loves all things outdoors, including windsurfing, skiing, biking, hiking, surfing, trail running and swimming. She also enjoys being creative in music and writing.

Dr. Jones, former Chief Physician Officer at Olympic Medical Physicians

"Dr. Larson has excelled in her journey from physician to physician-leader. She is a servant-leader, trialing innovations with a continuous quality improvement (CQI) mentality before implementing the changes for the whole clinic. She seeks data to drive her decisions; when the data is not available, she has been dogged in her attempts to gather the information herself, often in unique and novel ways for our organization. Specifically, she has created unique ways of analyzing and presenting opiate prescribing data for our clinics to influence provider behavior. In true CQI fashion, as she gathered information that one approach to influencing provider prescribing was proving ineffective, she recently engaged in a collaborative exploration with her team to determine new ways of approaching the problem.”

Her actions and demeanour were respectful, and I felt as though I was being included in my care plan as an integral part of a team, as opposed to being merely its subject.
